IKWRO helps Middle Eastern, North African (MENA) and Afghan women and girls who are living in the UK. We speak Farsi, Kurdish, Arabic, Dari, Pashto, Turkish and English.
Advice
We can give you confidential advice on issues including domestic abuse, all forms of “honour” based abuse, forced marriage, child marriage, female genital mutilation, separation and divorce, child residence and contact, housing and benefits. We won’t tell you what to do or judge you. We will explain the options and support you in making your own decisions. We can speak with you on the telephone, see you at our London office or meet you at another place which is safe and convenient for you. We can also run an advice clinic, for example at your local community centre, GP surgery or youth club. All our services are free, completely confidential and we never mediate.
Referrals and advocacy
With your consent, we can refer you to other services, for example for housing or immigration advice, including to Legal Aid providers and can accompany you to appointments with the police, a GP or others. We will work with the police, social services and others to keep you safe. Where appropriate, we can also translate, write letters for you or speak on your behalf.
Refuge
If you need a safe place to stay, we may be able to provide you a place in our refuge or help you to find safe accommodation.
Support and counselling
We give emotional support to all clients and offer a free counselling service in English, Arabic, Kurdish, Farsi and Dari.
Training
We run training groups explaining women’s rights under UK law. If you are interested in taking part in these please contact us. We also provide long term support and can link you up to English classes, training, education and employment to help you move on with your life.
