Marital Captivity is where a woman is denied her wish for divorce from a religious marriage. This is a form of violence against women and girls which has severe social, legal, and economic implications and it is an abuse of human rights. IKWRO believes that being trapped in a marriage amounts to a forced marriage.

IKWRO calls for forced marriage law to be extended, to recognise this form of violence against women and girls, and to provide a civil law mechanism to exit marital captivity.
