New short film calls on government to make schools “honour” based violence, forced marriage & female genital mutilation safe

Still from video

This week, as we celebrate both World Teachers Day (Monday, 5th October) and International Day of the Girl Child (Sunday, 11th October), the Iranian & Kurdish Women’s Rights Organisation (IKWRO), launches a short film calling on the government to make every school “honour” based violence, forced marriage & female genital mutilation (FGM) safe.

The short film, which is part of IKWRO’s #RightToKnow campaign, captures young people preparing and performing flash mobs and asking members of the public to tweet Nicky Morgan, the Secretary of State for Education and have their picture taken in support of the campaign.

This Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th September 2015 in London, the inspiring young people that IKWRO is working with as part of our #RightToKnow campaign, will be performing flash mobs calling for the government to make every school “honour” based violence, forced marriage and female genital mutilation (FGM) safe.

The flash mobs will be performed on both days from 2pm at Islington Green. We’d love you to come along with your friends and family to show your support for the campaign.

Happy International Youth Day!

FIND OUT HOW IKWRO’S WORKING WITH  YOUNG PEOPLE AS AGENTS OF CHANGE

Today, Wednesday 12th August 2015, is the United Nations’ designated International Youth Day. This year’s theme is youth civic engagement and IKWRO is celebrating the inspiring young people that we are working with as agents of change to tackle “honour” based violence, forced marriage and female genital mutilation (FGM).

Since IKWRO was founded, 13 years ago, we’ve made huge progress in raising awareness about “honour” based violence, forced marriage, child marriage and female genital mutilation (FGM). We’ve played a leading role in ensuring these issues are high on the government’s agenda: we were at the forefront of the successful campaign to criminalise forced marriage and our experienced, specialist advice and counselling teams have safeguarded and supported literally tens of thousands of women and girls at risk.
