With funding from Comic Relief, IKWRO runs monthly training groups for women and girls in which the attendees explore issues that are relevant to them, including their human rights and entitlements under UK law. The groups are a great way for women and girls to meet other women and girls with similar experiences and to build their skills and confidence.
IKWRO also delivers external training to women and girls from the communities that we work with about Violence Against Women and Girls, especially on harmful practices including; “Honour” Based Violence, Forced Marriage, Child Marriage and Female Genital Mutilation. Most of our training is peer led and can be delivered in our community languages or in English.
With the support of the Big Lottery Fund, we have a partnership project with the Refugee Women’s Association called Advice for Life through which we assist survivors of violence to access English language classes and education, training and employment opportunities, so that they can become financially independent.
In partnership with three other organisations we run an project called Journey to Integration through which we provide ESOL classes, volunteering opportunities, Information Advice and Guidance, and Citizenship groups.
As part of the Ascent, London wide women’s consortium, we provide training to school pupils about harmful practices including; “Honour” Based Violence, Forced Marriage, Child Marriage, Female Genital Mutilation and other issues.
